You want to find as much information as you can before you begin the static and dynamic analysis.

* File Context and Delivery
* File Information & Header Analysis
* Get Basic PE information
* Collect Strings
* Simple Web Search
* Check AV vendors
* Quick VM Detonation
* Capture network information
